October 5-11, 2020: Weekly Prayer Calendar

Prayers for the Election Process

Monday, October 5: ”This is what the Lord almighty said: ‘Administer true justice, show mercy and compassion to one another’” (Zechariah 7:9). Lord, we pray that our current lawmakers and all candidates would desire to administer true justice for all, accompanied by mercy and compassion.

Tuesday, October 6: “Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them. Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her and she will watch over you” (Proverbs  4:5-6). Father, we acknowledge our need of wisdom and are thankful that you have said that if we ask you will provide. Grant us your wisdom.

Wednesday, October 7: “I urge you then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness” (1 Timothy 1:1-2). Lord, guide us through this election as a nation, state, and community as we vote for people to work on our behalf and on the behalf of our communities and nation.  Guide us to vote for people and ballot issues that would lead to peaceful and quiet lives for all and that reflect the values that Christ has taught us.

Thursday, October 8: “Rescue us, O Lord, from evil men; protect us from men of violence who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day” (Psalm 140:1). Ask the Lord for protection from those who would try to prevent or interfere with the elections.

Friday, October 9: “For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice” (James 3:16). Pray that the Lord would remove all envy and selfish ambition from all candidates and all those already in leadership.

Saturday, October 10: “You, Lord, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race” (Psalm 12:7-8). Lord, we pray that the candidates and their families will be protected from harm and unnecessary scrutiny.

Sunday, October 11: Lord, may you, the God of hope, fill Pastor Matt “with all joy and peace as [he] trusts in you, so that [he] may overflow with hope through the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).
